If you are contact lenses bearers, probably you have been told about risks for health if contact lenses are worn for too long or if they are washed in an inappropriate way (or rarely) .But, a recent study carried out by NYU Langone Medical Center remind us on how truly is a bad idea to use non adequately washed hands, to remove them or to wear with them on. The study revealed that in the eyes of contact lenses bearers live various species of bacteria with respect of non bearers, amongst bacteria there can be a kind related to ocular ulcers.
For this sudy, researches have examinated the eyes of 20 subjects- 9 contact lenses bearers, and 11 non- bearers- to examinate the species of bacteria present in their eyes. Those who wear contact lenses have a major concentration of four species of bacteria : Lactobacillus, Acinetobacter, Methylobacterium, and Pseudomonas, the last one is commonly related to corneal ulcers.
What can be done, then, to keep away the infections from eyes?
Clean the hands, and then, lenses
Wash your heands with soap before touching lensesn. Tehn, clean the lenses and keep away dirt and dangerous bacteria putting them in the palm, rinsing delicately the inertnal part eith a cleaning solution.
Take into account different kinds of lenses
The smooth contact lenses with daily change seem to be a good solution to avoid those problems. there are may bacteria that can enter into the eyes when using a new serie of contact lenses every day. So, if you aren't so diligent in lenses cleaning, the daily lenses ( that have no maintenance) coual be the more suitable solution.
Take a period of relax
The best way to avoid eyes troubles or something more serious, is to wear glasses when possible. use contact lenses only during working day ( if you aren't always in fornt of computer!) and wear glasses at home and during week ends, reducing the time of wearing of contact lenses to 12-14 hours per day at maximum. Extremely improtant is to not swim with contact lenses on, the swimming pool wate ris reach in dangerous bacteria that can deposit on your contact lenses.
Remember: the glasses are always a fashion accessory!
